It’s time for this week’s COVID-19 and Flu update. Vaccinations for COVID-19 are still marching along at a steady pace, nearly seven million vaccines have been administered and more than 2,555,000 Pennsylvanians have been fully inoculated. The Pennsylvania Department of Health is now putting together a mobile unit which will start delivering vaccines in underserved areas of the state some time next week. The SARS CoV2 virus is still spreading and some experts think we may be nearing a third wave, over the last week new daily cases of COVID across the state exceeded 5,000 three times, including greater than 7,000 on Monday; the state added 33,139 new cases this week. There are currently 2,577 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and 25,556 deaths attributed to disease since last year. 1,092,852 infections have been confirmed since the disease was first found in Pennsylvania. Only 3,351 cases of influenza have been confirmed in PA, that’s 3% of a typical flu season, 43 hospitalizations and 18 deaths have been contributed to flu.
