A head-on collision in Venango County hospitalized three people on July 1st. According to crash scene investigators, a Nissan van driven by 38-year-old Joseph Tromans crossed into the oncoming traffic lane on Route 257 in Cranberry Township and collided with a Dodge pickup with enough force to cause both vehicles to travel an additional 50 feet. Tromans was taken to UPMC Northwest and then life-flighted to UPMC Hamot; the driver and passenger of the pickup were both taken to UPMC Northwest where the driver was evaluated for injuries and the passenger was given treatment for injuries they sustained.
The Pennsylvania State Police released information about traffic citations and vehicle crashes over the Independence Day enforcement period. Over the four-day weekend, PSP says that over 24,000 traffic citations were issued including about 8,750 for speeding, 900 seatbelt violations, and 300 for not properly securing children in vehicles. 515 arrests were made for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and troopers investigated 649 crashes, four of which were fatal.
