TRI COUNTY REPORT FOR DECEMBER 7TH, 2021

A GoFundMe Page is seeking donations to help the family of a man who died while helping a stranded motorist over the weekend.  The page went up yesterday to help pay for funeral expenses for Timothy Baclit, who died on Sunday in Hopewell Township.  Baclit was helping another driver when he accidentally fell from the I-376 West overpass at Bryson Road and suffered fatal injuries.  A celebration of life ceremony is being planned for Baclit, who leaves behind three children.

Former U.S. Congresswoman Melissa Hart is running to be the Republican Party’s nominee for Governor.  Hart confirmed on Monday that she would be seeking the state’s highest office and will officially launch her campaign next month.  Hart represented the North Hills in the state senate for a decade and then served three terms in Congress.  Hart will be the first woman to join a field of 12 declared candidates for the Republican nomination.

Officials this week say that two winning tickets for the Pennsylvania Lottery’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle were recently sold in Western Pennsylvania.  The game features eight weekly drawings of two winning numbers.  Two tickets sold locally between November 23 and November 29th are each worth 50-thousand dollars.  One ticket was sold at the Settler’s Ridge Market District in Allegheny County and the other at Dagwood’s Subs-N-Suds in Westmoreland County.  Players can find out if they’ve won at any lottery retailer or on the lottery’s app.

A Penn State University professor is making her national quiz show debut this week on Jeopardy.  Professor of English Hester Blum  [[  BLOOM  ]] appeared last night in the first episode of the series first-ever Professors Tournament.  Bloom finished in second place on the episode but remains in contention for one of four wild cards spots to get into the event’s semi-final round.  The eventual tournament winner will receive a 100-thousand dollar grand prize.

According to this week’s Triple-A East Central Gas Price Report the average price of gasoline in Western Pennsylvania is down a penny this week to 3.56 a gallon. In New Castle drivers are paying 3.52 while the price in Sharon is at 3.55. The national average is at 3.35 a gallon down four cents from last week.

State Police in Butler County report a two vehicle accident in Summit Township. Police said 63 year old Cynthia Ellison of Chicora pulled from the intersection of Bonniebrook Road and Herman Road and struck a vehicle operated by 65 year old Sue Lemasters of Butler. Lemasters along with a passenger were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

A former Indiana County educator who sexually assaulted a student 12 years ago has been sentenced to prison.  Patrick McKee pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges in the case involving a minor who at the time was under the age of 16.  McKee retired from teaching in 2020.  He was sentenced yesterday to a term of 5 to 10 years in prison.

A former Pennsylvania state lawmaker charged with falsifying and double-dipping on expense reimbursements from the state House of Representatives and her campaign pleaded guilty this week to a number of misdemeanor charges. Margo Davidson pleaded guilty Thursday in Dauphin County Court to five counts, including theft, according to the State Attorney General’s office. Davidson was accused of getting reimbursed for hotel stays, parking, tolls and gas by both her campaign and by the House from 2015 to 2019, and for putting in for reimbursements for hotel stays that never actually occurred.
