Authorities are reporting a fatal crash on I-79 near Meadville yesterday. Crash scene investigators report that Norman and Bonnie Pfendler of Franklin were leaving the interstate via Exit 147 and their vehicle failed to make a sharp enough turn, causing a collision with the concrete barrier and sending them airborne. Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell declared Bonnie dead at the scene while Norman was taken to Meadville Medical Center; the extent of his injuries is unknown.
On Wednesday the Crawford County Commissioners determined they will be suspending the mandated vaccine program for Crawford County Care Center employees pending the final resolution of a case in federal court. The Board of Commissioners will wait for further instructions from federal courts before making a final decision on whether or not the program goes ahead. The United States District Court Western District of Louisiana Monroe Division has granted an injunction on the national mandate for healthcare workers while it determines the legality of the mandate.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, of television fame, announced his Pennsylvania candidacy for the United States Senate as a republican on Monday. Though a New Jersey resident, Dr. Oz is registered to vote in Montgomery County Pennsylvania, which qualifies him for office in the commonwealth. The 61 year old emphasized his ties to Pennsylvania through his degrees at UPenn and family that lives in the state.
