State Police in Lawrence County report a one vehicle accident in Taylor Township. According to police 79 year old Gerald Pauletich of West Pittsburgh was traveling east on route 422 when he traveled off the roadway and struck a guard rail. Pauletich was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown for treatment.
Police in Beaver County report a shooting victim is hospitalized today following a weekend incident in Beaver Falls. Local police report the man approached the department for help just after 12 a.m. yesterday. He was flown by helicopter to a local hospital and there has been no update on his condition. Police have since arrested 30-year-old suspect Raheem Beal in connection with the assault.
A woman was taken to the hospital after she was found unconscious in a gas station parking lot in Mercer County. According to state police the 53 year old Clarks Mills woman was administered Narcan and was revived by police. She was taken to the Allegheny Health Network in Grove City. Charges are pending as police found drugs and drug paraphernalia
A new survey from research company Consumer Affairs says Pennsylvania is among the nation’s safest states. Consumer Affairs researchers released an updated study of the safest states in the U.S. over the weekend, with Pennsylvania coming in at number 14. Consumer Affairs looked at data from the FBI and Census Bureau for each state’s rates in violent crime, property crime, law enforcement spending and then compared it to the national average to determine a score. New Jersey ranked first on the list, with Pennsylvania finishing ahead of Minnesota and just below Idaho
The number of COVID-19 cases among school-aged children is nearly three times greater this year than it was throughout 2020. State officials say between October 27th and November 2nd, 2020, there were just under 17-hundred total cases of COVID cases in school-aged kids. That’s compared to a little over 49-hundred in the same age group during the same week in 2021. Health authorities say they hope the numbers will go down with the start of vaccinations for children ages five and up across the state.
A man accused in the September killing of a pregnant McKeesport woman is behind bars today. Twenty-five-year-old Isaac Smith was arrested Friday and charged with homicide and homicide of an unborn child in the shooting death of 26-year-old Karli Short. Investigators say that Smith was the father of the unborn child.
South Carolina authorities are reporting the death of a Beaver County man following a kayaking accident. Twenty-six-year-old Kellen Mackey of New Brighton had gone to the State to attend a wedding. On Saturday, while kayaking on Lake Hartwell, his vessel overturned. Officials say Mackey was not wearing a flotation device and did not know how to swim. Crews recovered his body hours later.
A Washington County woman is facing a list of charges after police say she hid the body of her deceased child inside a wall of her home. Authorities went to 25-year-old Kylie Wilt’s Lookout Avenue residence on Thursday to help Child and Youth Services workers find the infant. Police say Wilt told them that the child died in February of this year from SIDS and that she and the baby’s father did not have money for burial. The child was found inside a bedroom wall.
