Education Secretary Noe Ortega, PennDOT, and the Pennsylvania School Bus Association are urging individuals with a commercial driver’s license or interest in obtaining one to consider driving school busses as there is a shortage across the commonwealth. The state has sent over 376,000 letters to CDL drivers trying to get interest and PennDOT is even performing certified CDL skills tests in 23 locations every Monday from October 18th until November 8th.
Individuals may schedule a CDL skills test by visiting PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website and selecting Schedule a Driver’s Exam under Driver Vehicle Services, or they may call (717) 412-5300. “We want to do our part to encourage those looking for employment or supplemental income to consider obtaining a school bus endorsement to help get our children to school. That’s the critical part of all of this,” Deputy PennDOT Secretary Kurt Meyers said.
