David Santia of Erie is in Venango County Jail after an arrest for allegedly stealing a safe containing $160,000 worth of cash and valuables. Santia was working at the residence of a Venango County woman while she was out of town and was accused by her of taking the safe while she was absent. He resides in jail on $25,000 straight bail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled tomorrow.

Edinboro University has announced a new partnership to expand its Aeronautical Science Program by adding High Flight Academy as its fourth professional flight training partner. High Flight works out of the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport in Butler County. 18 to 24 credits of the Aeronautics program are earned at the affiliate flight schools where students learn instrument ratings and their private and commercial flight certifications. The three other partners of the flight program are North Coast Flight School of Erie, OnCore Aviation of Rochester NY, and Blue Line Aviation in Morrisville NC. Seeking to address a shortage of teachers in the commonwealth, the Pennsylvania State Senate approved a bill yesterday to streamline the process by which teachers certified in other states can come to work in Pennsylvania. Senate Bill 224 was authored by Republican Senator Bartolotta who represents Beaver, Greene, and Washington Counties who called the current process costly and overly cumbersome. She says the bill is necessary because the number of new teachers has decreased by 2/3 since 2010. Senate Bill 224 received 48 votes in favor and no opposition.
