Memorial Day is this coming Monday and the Meadville Area Memorial Day Committee has decided that this year will not feature the traditional Memorial Day parade due to the continuing pandemic. There will still be a solemn observance for those who gave their lives in battle beginning at 11AM at Diamond Park with the tolling of the Revere Bell at the First Baptist Church and ending around noon with the tolling of bells around the city. This year’s guest speaker is Thomas Hanzes, a Greenville native who was awarded the Bronze Star for valor in Vietnam and previously commander of the Pennsylvania State VFW. The Memorial Day Committee asks that all attendees please follow mask and social distancing guidelines. This year you may also attend from home by listening to the Allegheny News Talk Sports Network or watching the proceedings on Armstrong.
When it comes to sciences, geology rocks, and Edinboro University’s Geology department is a key part of creating a new science program along with the State System of Higher Education and the National Science Foundation. The program should debut next year to help expose students in underserved areas of the state to the kinds of careers found in the field of geology.
