It’s time for this week’s COVID-19 and Influenza update. As of this week more than a quarter of all Pennsylvanians are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 45% have received at least one dose of a Pfizer or Moderna Vaccine. Even while 7.5 million vaccines have been given out and the supply of vaccines becomes more abundant, the Pennsylvania Department of Health is focusing on addressing the number of people who are hesitant to get a vaccination. Roughly about 123,500 Pennsylvania residents are currently confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 and more than 2,800 of them are hospitalized with about 600 in intensive care. Almost 29,000 new cases were confirmed this week and Pennsylvania’s case total is 1,122,662, leading to 25,879 deaths. 15 weeks into the flu season the PA department of Health has tracked 3,398 cases of influenza with 44 hospitalizations and 19 deaths.

 

Interstate 80 was closed in both the Eastbound and Westbound lanes around Emlenton Bridge in Clarion County after multiple collisions kept stopping traffic. Multiple two and  three vehicle crashes happened between 6AM and 7:30AM, causing authorities to close the entire section of the interstate in both directions.

 

The Crawford County Fair Board and Crawford County Board of Commissioners have agreed that this year’s County Fair will be fee free. No gate charge for the fair when it opens this year on August 21st, but there will also be no rides or additional entertainment this year; just vendors, the Fair Queen, and agricultural events. Over the next several weeks the Fair Board will be finalizing a revised schedule of events and putting together the final plan for the fair following guidance from the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs.

 

A Pennsylvania State Trooper has found himself on the wrong side of the law. Trask Alexander, a PA State Police Trooper out of Beaver County has been arrested and suspended without pay; he is facing allegations of tampering with records and obstructing the administration of law. A detective for the Philadelphia Police force has also been arrested; Robert Redanauer is charged with reckless endangerment and assault after pulling a loaded weapon on two people while off duty.
