According to the Pennsylvania State Police a man from Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina was killed in a Venango County Wildfire. Investigators say that at about 2PM on Tuesday, April 6th the man started the initial fire which eventually burned out of control and led to his death from flame or smoke inhalation. County Coroner Christina Rugh will be determining the exact cause of death. Northwest Pennsylvania has been under a moderate threat for wildfires since March and has seen unusually high incidents of wildfire in 2021, but this was the first reported fatality. Pending the coroner’s determination its being treated as an accidental death.
Antonio Thompson of Erie was arrested in connection to a March 25th car crash that police say he caused. It’s alleged that Thompson was arguing with the driver of a 2008 Ford Edge as they drove along Interstate 79 in Mercer County and that during the argument he grabbed the wheel of the car and pulled it, causing the SUV to crash. He has been charged with aggravated assault and other lesser charges.
Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives passed a new bill to provide a two year window for victims of childhood sexual abuse to file suits against their abusers even if the statute of limitations for criminal charges has passed. The new version of the bill does not seek to amend the state constitution like the previous version and passed by a margin of 149 to 52. It will now be sent to the PA State Senate.
