On Friday, February 19th Pennsylvania’s Governor, Tom Wolf, signed a third extension to the COVID-19 state of emergency, which allows state agencies and services to follow special rules expediting their jobs. The commonwealth has also hit new milestones in the COVID-19 vaccination front when it was announced Wednesday that the staff and residents in over 600 nursing and eldercare facilities had been fully vaccinated and the state will be receiving its largest allotment yet of first and second dose COVID-19 vaccines. Over the last week 16,436 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed through testing and the positivity rate has dropped to 6.5%. For the first time in months 90% of Pennsylvania’s 923,000 COVID-19 patients are listed as recovered, but 23,868 people have died from the disease. Flu numbers remain very low in PA with only 2,750 confirmed cases leading to 14 deaths since September.
