Michael Mesko, a New York man who’s abduction of a teenage girl caused an Amber Alert, was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police in Venango County on Tuesday. Mesko had been released on bail from a Niagara County jail on rape charges less than a week before kidnapping a 17 year old girl and traveling south into Pennsylvania early Tuesday morning. Mesko and his victim were recognized at a gas station in Barkeyville at about 8:15AM and apprehended on Interstate 80 after a short chase when a trooper successfully used a PIT maneuver to disable his vehicle. Mesko was taken into custody and his victim was rescued and sent to a hospital for an evaluation. Michael Mesko is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and fleeing and eluding authorities here in Pennsylvania; in New York he faces charges of rape, sexual assault, and kidnapping; and he will also be facing federal charges.
