At the request of Governor Tom Wolf, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of State Kathy Brookvar is stepping down from her post after her office failed to properly advertise a proposed amendment to the state constitution. The amendment was to be on the ballot for this year and involved the adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. As Secretary of State, Brookvar was to ensure a writeup about the amendment appeared in newspapers across the commonwealth and as a result of the error the process to amend has to begin anew from scratch. Attorney General Josh Shapiro called the State Department’s failure shameful; and urged the Governor and Legislature to pass the next measure as a normal law instead of a constitutional amendment.
Government business in Harrisburg was postponed because of a winter storm and rescheduled. The postponed events included Governor Tom Wolf’s Budget Address which has been moved from today until tomorrow, multiple legislative meetings to address the COVID-19 pandemic, and more.
