The world, the nation, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania continues to battle with the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus which is the cause COVID-19. Within the last week the Pennsylvania Department of Health has reported a little more than 5,000 new cases of COVID per day for a total of 35,075 new cases. About 327,500 tests were administered which means the positivity rate has fallen to about 10.5%. Since March of 2020 more than 824,000 Pennsylvanians have been diagnosed with COVID-19, causing over 21,000 deaths and leaving thousands more as long haulers, with complications from their sickness that persist for weeks or even months, and some may never fully recover. Vaccinations against COVID-19 continue to be the main priority for the Pennsylvania Department of Health, nearly 840,000 residents of the state have been vaccinated with 160,000 having completed a full vaccination course. Influenza numbers continue to be extremely low, only 2,332 cases have received laboratory diagnoses, causing 26 hospitalizations, and 10 attributed deaths.
