Crawford County saw a massive spike in COVID-19 cases on Friday, December 11th when an outbreak of the disease was discovered at SCI Cambridge Springs, the women’s prison located in the North Central portion of the County. The outbreak pushed the county to a record high 614 new cases during the day when 436 inmates and guards in total tested positive for COVID, but it was also a record setting day for community spread with 178 new cases among residents. A relatively low 46 Crawford County residents have died from an infection of COVID-19, but 38 of those deaths have come since November. On Friday Elaine Burkholder of the Meadville Community Soup Kitchen announced that they would be closing until further notice beginning today and some area restaurants have pledged to step up and provide meals to the needy including The Whole Darn Thing sub shop and Willy G’s Pub which made the announcements via social media. Across the state more than 451,000 infections have led to at least 12,600 deaths.
The Pennsylvania State Police in Meadville are searching for a missing Conneautville teenager. 17 year old Hailey winters has been missing since Monday December 7th when she was supposed to be returning to her mother’s home from a friend’s house, but instead traveled to Greenville. Hailey is a 17 year old female with blonde hair and blue eyes; she stands about 5’9” tall and weighs around 160 pounds. Hailey was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black leggings, and white Nike shoes and uses black rimmed glasses to correct her vision. She was last seen while being dropped off at a Sheetz in Greenville and was in the company of 21 year old Riley Contreras who is only described as a Hispanic male and has also been missing since that Monday. Anyone who has information about the whereabouts of Hailey Winters or Riley Conteras should contact their local or state police.
