Residents of the city of Meadville are advised that loose leaf pickup begins on Monday, October 12th. Loose fall leaves should be raked up to the curb by Monday of their collection week so they can be picked up by the street sweepers and vacuum collection trucks being used for the project. A schedule of leaf collection days can be found online at and more information can be obtained by calling the public works garage at (814)724-6054. Leaves can also be placed in special biodegradable bags and left for pickup on garbage collection days opposite days for recycling.


An extension to the Medical Assistance for Workers with Disabilities Act received unanimous consent in the Pennsylvania State Senate earlier this week. The bill passed by the senate more than doubles the salary cap for MAWD benefits from $32,000 to $75,000 per year. The bill was sponsored by Senator Bob Mensch who said that the current cut-off salary leaves many disabled workers in a position to lose assistance with their often expensive health benefits if they advance their careers and can actually put them in a worse position.
