The Pennsylvania State Police have issued multiple scam warnings over the past two weeks. The latest warning is about scammers posing as members of the Pennsylvania State Police and using devices to disguise their callback numbers. The scammers are requesting various forms of payment to prevent the arrest of the intended victim or a member of their family. Neither the Pennsylvania State Police, nor any other law enforcement agency, will ever contact an individual seeking money; especially to prevent an arrest.
Last week a warning was issued about Gift Card Scams, which in a general sense warns that anyone who contacts you via phone or email and seeks payment through gift cards is trying to scam you. The warning also says to avoid giving out personal information like a Social Security or bank account number through the phone or online. If you suspect a scam by internet or phone then discontinue contact with the person immediately and contact the police.
