TRI COUNTY REPORT FOR AUGUST 10TH, 2020

A 60-year-old woman was rescued  after a fall at McConnells Mill State Park. The incident happened just before 10 a.m. Saturday along Alpha Pass Trail. WFMJ-TV reports  the woman was hiking with family members when she fell over a small embankment. First responders used a stokes basket to pull her back up to safety.
She was taken to the hospital.  Her condition is unclear at this time.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association voted Friday to delay the start of fall sports two weeks in order to continue discussions with the Wolf Administration about whether or how sports can safely take place. The board said its hopes to “work collaboratively” with Wolf and the Department of Health to discuss fall sports. The Governor along with the departments of Health and Education strongly recommended that the no sports take place until January of 2021.

Extracurricular activities in the Blackhawk School District are on hold after a student tested positive for COVID-19.  School officials told families yesterday that a student-athlete is in isolation after the positive test.  Sports practices and other activities are scheduled to resume August 24th.

The P-A Department of Health says the Commonwealth’s total number of COVID-19 cases is now up to 118-thousand-847 since the start of the pandemic.  The death toll related to coronavirus complications reached 73-hundred-14 through Sunday’s announcement.  More than one-point-two million COVID-19 tests have come back negative for the virus thus far. Lawrence County has 390 cases and the death toll is now at 16.

Police in Sharon are investigated a shooting that resulted in a woman’s death. The shooting took place Saturday morning just after 12:30. Police said they found 23 year old Kelli Johnston with a gunshot wound to the head. She was first taken to Sharon Regional Hospital then flown to St.Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown where she died. 20 year old Ezra Daye was arrested by police and is in the Mercer County Jail charged with criminal homicide. The investigation is ongoing.

Allegheny County Health officials are reporting their single lowest one-day total of new COVID-19 cases since late June.  They added 61 new coronavirus cases Sunday, bringing the countywide total to 88-hundred-57 since the start of the pandemic.  There was one new death related to COVID-19 complications announced for Allegheny County Sunday, with the death toll now at 259.

State Police in Mercer County report a woman faces charges after she was found passed out in her car with two children. Police said the incident took place last night just before seven o’clock. 38 year old Lindsey Cambert of Mercer faces charges of Endangering the welfare of children and DUI.

Police say three people are in custody following a drug bust last week in Butler.  A search warrant was served at a home on the 100-block of Heim Avenue, with police seizing more than three ounces of methamphetamine, cash, guns, and other drug packaging paraphernalia.  Shayne Lipka, Jesse George, and Jams Francis are each facing charges.

The Pittsburgh Pirates upcoming series against the St. Louis Cardinals is being postponed because of the coronavirus.  The first game was scheduled to be played Monday.  The Cards have not played a game since July 29th because of an outbreak within the clubhouse.  There have now been 27 games postponed because of COVID concerns.
