There is a new bipartisan bill sponsored by legislators from Allegheny County and authored primarily by doctors from UPMC with the aim of protecting senior citizens living in care facilities from COVID-19. House Bill 2510 was introduced yesterday and is designed to create a public private partnership with regional health systems to manage testing protocols for residents and personnel at care facilities and looks to be funded by $500 million of federal grant money already coming to the state. On Sunday it was revealed that about 68% of Pennsylvania’s 3,800 deaths were seniors living in nursing homes, personal care homes, and assisted living facilities.
