10 Republican members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly which represent Butler County have submitted a letter to Governor Tom Wolf urging him to include Butler in the list of counties entering the Yellow Phase of his reopening plan tomorrow. State Representatives Marci Mustello, Aaron Bernstine, Tim Bonner, Lee James, Jim Marshall, Daryl Metcalfe, and Jeff Pyle, and Senators Scott Hutchinson, Joe Pitman, and Elder Vogel all signed the letter which makes a case for reopening Butler County sooner and not later. Butler County has a population of nearly 189,000 people but only 185 in total have tested positive for COVID-19 according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. There is Speculation that Butler County remains in the severely restricted phase because of its close proximity to Allegheny County which still has more than 1,000 active infections.

In Harrisburg State Senator John Desanto called for Secretary of Labor and Industry Jerry Oleksiak to step down or be fired over the handling of the hundreds of thousands of unemployment claims being processed by the department. A spokesperson for Governor Wolf says he has no intentions of removing the secretary during this crisis.
