Both the Secretary of Labor and Industry, Jerry Oleksiak, and Governor Tom Wolf have addressed the challenges facing Pennsylvania’s unemployment compensation system during the coronavirus related Stay at Home orders. According to Secretary Oleksiak Pennsylvania went from record low unemployment claims and was inundated with over 1,650,000 unemployment claims since mid March. They have pulled staff from other parts of the state government and even called back retired workers to meet demand, but still have a delay of as long as three weeks in getting to individual claims. If you have made a claim and have not received a personal PIN number after three weeks you should contact the Department of Labor and Industry by phone. Governor Wolf remarked over the weekend during a conference call with reporters that neither he nor Secretary Oleksiak were satisfied with how things stand. You can still file unemployment claims online at uc.pa.gov or by calling (1-888)313-7284.
