With so many places of business temporarily closed due to COVID-19, Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry reported on Monday that they have received more than 1,334,000 applications for unemployment compensation since March 15th. To deal with this huge backlog of applications the department has had to resort to some extreme measures which include borrowing people from other state agencies and even bringing back retired former employees. The Department of Labor and Industry has also launched a new portal on its CareerLink website which matches people looking for work with jobs in industries which are still running during the Pandemic; it can be reached at PAcareerlink.pa.gov.
Also yesterday, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said this is the week we should see the results of social distancing at home. The state added another 1,300 confirmed COVID-19 cases yesterday, down slightly from Sunday.
