New Castle police are searching for a murder suspect. An arrest warrant was issued yesterday for Juan Aviles Suarez. Detectives say Suarez gunned down Eiram Santiago-Hernandez last week at the Oak Leaf Gardens housing complex.
Mercer County is under a high wind warning until 8 o’clock tonight. The National Weather Service says winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are
expected. Travel will be difficult at times today for high profile vehicles. Authorities say downed trees and power lines are possible.
Police in Neshannock Township say that careless driving led to minor accident on Friday afternoon.The accident took place around 3:00 p.m. in the 3300 Block of Wilmington Road. Police say that 67-year old John Bartlett was traveling south when he drifted onto the shoulder of the road and struck a vehicle operated by 43 year old Ellen Willisams. Barlett told police that he had fallen asleep at the wheel and woke up at impact. Police said both drivers were taken to UPMC Jameson for treatment. Barlett will be cited for careless driving.
Health officials are confirming more cases of the novel coronavirus. Officials say that as of Sunday, the state saw a rise of more than one-thousand cases of COVID-19 bringing the total to nearly 23-thousand. The state also reported 13 new deaths, the state total now 507. Lawrence County has 49 cases and four deaths. Mercer County has 40 cases and no deaths. Beaver County has 145 cases with 13 deaths.
Ambridge officials are reeling from the sudden death of the borough’s interim police chief. Beaver County health officials say Mark Romutis died this past weekend of apparent coronavirus complications. Romutis had reportedly tested positive but was cleared for duty before being hospitalized on Friday. He is the 13th person to die from COVID-19 in Beaver County out of 145 cases.
Two residents who lived at Concordia at the Orchard are dead from complications related to coronavirus. The two were being treated at Butler Memorial Hospital, according to health officials. Representatives with Concordia at the Orchard say no additional residents have tested positive.
Allegheny County Jail officials say another inmate has tested positive for coronavirus. That makes three inmates and one staff member testing positive since the start of the pandemic. So far, eleven inmates and 15 staff members have been tested, with the results of six of those tests still pending.
A man from Grove City is injured after a crash last week in Brady Township. The 41-year-old reportedly didn’t yield when pulling onto Centerville Pike last Wednesday afternoon, striking another vehicle. The other driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The 41-year-old is being cited for a traffic violation.
A data collection company is giving Lawrence County an F for its social distancing efforts. Unacast utilizes cellphone location information to note how much people move around the nation. The Ellwood City Ledger reports Lawrence County got the failing grade this weekend for its efforts — or lack thereof — to reduce non-essential visits, meaning more people should be staying home.
A man from Butler is facing charges connected to a domestic dispute last week. Troopers say 51-year-old William Barbary allegedly assaulted one juvenile and exposed himself to a second person Thursday night. Barbary was taken to Butler County Jail.
A man from Evans City is dead after a wreck midday Friday in Wexford. Investigators say 74-year-old Stephen Morten was killed during the crash on Perry Highway. There’s no word from police as to what may have led to the crash.
