The Northwest Pennsylvania region saw its first death from COVID-19 yesterday. Butler Health System reports that an infected patient at Butler Memorial hospital died from complications directly related to infection from the SARS Cov-2 virus (the cause of COVID-19) while in intensive care on Thursday. 1,687 confirmed infections are being tracked by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as of noon yesterday and there have been 16 deaths so far. Nationally there are now more than 85,000 confirmed cases of the disease but for the first time since COVID-19 came to the country we are seeing hundreds of patients recover a day.

 

Primary elections have been delayed in Pennsylvania after a decision finalized by the State Legislature Wednesday. The April 28th election has been moved further into the year to happen on Tuesday June 2nd and county election officials will have more time to deal with mail in ballots. Governor Tom Wolf has announced he will be signing that bill along with all of the others that passed on Wednesday.
