TRI COUNTY REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 4TH, 2020

An investigation is underway into a deadly fall in Beaver Falls.  Police say an 85-year-old man died yesterday when he fell 15 feet from the roof of his home on the 20th Street Extension.  The victim’s name was not released.

One person is badly hurt after a crash in Prospect yesterday afternoon.  It happened along Park Road near Moraine State Park with the 23-year-old thrown from the vehicle during the single-vehicle wreck.  First responders say the man suffered facial injuries, but was conscious when he was flown to the hospital.  There’s no word on what led to the crash.

The Sharon Herald is reporting A Meadville man has been sentenced to jail time plus probation for a high-speed underage drunken driving crash that killed a passenger in his pickup truck nearly two years ago in Sandy Creek Township. 22 year old Daniel R. Bell was sentenced Friday to one year less one day to two years less one day followed by five years probation in the death of Codie Alan King. The 26 year old King was a passenger in a truck driven by Bell who was 20 at at the time, that crashed back in March of 2018. Bell’s blood alcohol level was just above the legal limit.

Investigators are identifying the people hurt in a wreck that slowed traffic on Route 422 in Butler County last week.  Police say an S-U-V driven by Cynthia Burianek of Aliquippa tried making a left turn from Greenwood Drive onto Route 422 in Butler Township Friday evening when the vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer.  The 62-year-old Burianek and 77-year-old Marietta Schriner also of Aliquippa were hurt and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.  Some of the injuries were described as severe.

A New Brighton woman is behind bars, accused of stabbing a man and stealing his SUV.  Eva Lally was unable to post bond yesterday after being charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault.  New Brighton police say Lally attacked the victim this past weekend during an alcohol-fueled fight at their home.  She was later arrested in Moon Township after trying to flee police.

A teen is recovering from minor injuries after a crash last week in Slippery Rock Township last week.  On Wednesday afternoon, 19-year-old Mia Loos of Parker was headed westbound on Branchton Road when she lost control of the vehicle, hit a fence, and eventually went airborne over a small creek.  Loos’s vehicle flipped several times before coming to a stop.  There’s no word on what led the teen to leave the road and lose control of the S-U-V.

Pennsylvania hunters killed 4,653 black bears last year, setting a new record. The Pennsylvania Game Commission said Monday the total is far above last year’s total of 3,153. Game commission officials had sought an increase given the statewide bear population of about 20,000. An official said there were 30 days of bear hunting across all bear seasons for the first time since 1931.

According to this week’s Triple-A East Central Gas price report the average price of gasoline across Western Pennsylvania is five cents cheaper this week at $2.71 a gallon. In New Castle the average sits at 2.57 a gallon while drivers is Sharon are paying 2.47 on average.  The national gas price average is $2.47, which is four cents cheaper than last week and 11 cents cheaper than the beginning of the year. A year ago drivers in Western Pennsylvania were paying 2.47 a gallon.

Investigators say a Butler County woman took about 50-grand from a fast-food restaurant in Butler Township.  Michele Krzewinski was arrested last week after allegedly adding Christopher Sweet to the payroll at the Long John Silver’s at Moraine Point Plaza.  Sweet never worked a day at the restaurant, but Krzewinski would send him money while he was in prison.  The 48-year-old woman was fired from Long John Silver’s this year.
