Truck Driver Robbed in Barkeyville

In the Venango County Town of Barkeyville, State Police are investigating an armed robbery. A Fresno, California man was held at gunpoint and robbed in the back parking of one of the truck stops along Pittsburgh Road shortly after midnight on Sunday night. The victim was locked in the trailer of his truck after the attack and could only describe the robbers as a group of three men, one white and two black, who claimed they were security guards.


Eastern Equine Encephalitis Risk in Area

A rare but potentially deadly infection has been discovered in five Pennsylvania Counties including Erie and Mercer. Eastern Equine Encephalitis can be carried by mosquitoes and ordinarily effects horses and birds, but can be spread to humans. Health officials are advising people to take precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes such as wearing light colors and using insect repellent containing the chemical DEET. Triple E has been confirmed in Erie, Mercer, Carbon, Monroe, and Luzerne Counties.


Man Injured by Exploding Musket

In Erie County a 55 year old man from Warren was injured when the black powder rifle he was firing exploded after being loaded with excessive gunpowder. He was fortunate to suffer only minor injuries and was released from the hospital soon after.
