Announcements

Erie County
The weekend closure for the Route 20 (Ridge Road) bridge in Girard Township, Erie County, has been rescheduled to due the weather forecast. The bridge will now be closed from 8:00 PM Friday, September 20, 2019 to 6:00 AM Monday, September 23, 2019. The closure is necessary in order to pave the new concrete deck on the structure, which cannot be done under rainy conditions. A detour will be posted using Route 18, Interstate 90, and Route 98. When the closure is lifted, travel will be restricted to one lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal for seven days. Additional information on the project is available online at www.penndot.gov/district1 by clicking on the “Construction Projects/Roadwork” link under the Resources heading, and then choosing the box labeled “Erie County – Route 20 Bridge”.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a second public meeting and plans display on the Route 62 Corridor Safety Study in Mercer County. An open house plans display will be held from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, September 25, 2019. PennDOT representatives, along with the design consultants, will make a brief presentation at 5:15 PM and will be available to answer questions. The goal of the meeting is to share findings from the study and review alternatives that will help in the development of a long-range strategy for improving the corridor, which focuses on approximately 11 miles of Route 62 from Keel Ridge Road in the City of Hermitage to Route 19 in the Borough of Mercer, including where the roadway runs through Jefferson, Lackawannock, and East Lackawannock townships. Alternatives that will be presented will focus on short-term and long-term roadway, traffic, infrastructure, and other transportation-related safety improvements.

The public meeting will be held:
Date:               September 25, 2019
Time:              5 to 7 PM – open house plans display 5:15 PM – presentation
Location:       Hickory VFW Post 6166 5550 East State Street Hermitage, PA 16148

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) employees at the Mercer County maintenance facility, in partnership with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 2102, will hold the 24th annual open house Wednesday, September 18. The public event will feature extended hours again this year, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The change was made to further the mission of the program to highlight PennDOT’s commitment to serve the community and encourage highway safety. The day will include a broad range of interactive displays and safety demonstrations by PennDOT and more than two dozen other state agencies and vendors. Returning to this year’s event will be a “Paint the Plow” exhibit, which features snow plows painted by students from several Mercer County high schools. Applications to participate in the program are still being accepted and can be found online at www.penndot.gov/district1 under the Resources heading.
The PennDOT Worker’s Memorial will be on display at the open house. The memorial, which is used to raise work zone safety awareness, includes 89 posts, one for each PennDOT employee who died in the line of duty since 1970. Guided tours and donated refreshments will be provided to students who attend the free event as part of a school-sponsored field trip. Teachers and school administrators can schedule a tour by contacting Amber Bell at 724-662-5350. The event is also open to members of the community, who are welcome to attend any time between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
