FBI Investigates How Seneca Couple Scammed out of $62,000

The Pennsylvania State Police, FBI, and Attorney General of the United States are involved in an investigation into a scam in Venango County. An unknown individual using computer technology to alter their voice convinced a Seneca couple that they were their grandson and he was in legal trouble. Over the course of the scam the two concerned grandparents wired more than $62,000 to the conman only to find out later their real grandson had never been in legal trouble.

 

Governor Urges Assembly to pass Red Flag Law

 Governor Tom Wolf was on hand at a rally in the state capital yesterday to make remarks about gun control. He urged the Pennsylvania General Assembly to work on passage of a Red Flag bill which was introduced months ago and the US Senate to take a vote on a Universal Background Checks bill on the national level. Democrats statewide have been calling for the governor to open a special session to address gun violence.

 

Authorities Seek Witnesses to Crimes

About $1,200 was stolen from a cash register at the American Legion in Strattanville on Tuesday August 6th as patrons were getting ready to play bingo. The theft happened between 3:30PM and 5PM and the cash was mostly in 20 bills. If you might have witnessed this event call the Clarion State Police at (814)226-1710.
On Friday July 26th a loaded firearm was stolen from the home of Chance McClaine in Harrisville. The weapon is a camouflage colored 9MM Hi-Point C9 and was removed from the master bedroom. Call the Franklin State Police at (814)676-6596 with information. 
An orange Husqvarna 372XP chainsaw was stolen from a business on Campbell Road in Oil Creek Township Crawford County in mid July. If you have information please call the Corry State Police at (814)663-2043.

 

Crash Hospitalizes Two in Clarion County

Two people were hospitalized after a crash on Route 322 in Paint Township, Clarion County. 42 year old Paula Blum of Strattanville and 18 year old Alex Hohman of Brookville were both taken to Clarion hospital after Hohman collided with the rear of Blum’s truck shortly before noon on Tuesday.

 

ARC Presents Free Movie in Meadville

Next Thursday, August 15th, 2019, The ARC of Crawford County is teaming up with Edinboro University for a free movie under the stars in downtown Meadville at the corner of Market Street and Clinton Court. The family oriented event begins at 8PM with family friendly fun and the feature presentation of The Greatest Showman begins at 9 with free popcorn and water provided for everyone.

 

Operation Independence Day Catches Notorious Human Trafficker

The FBI has released details on Operation Independence Day which took place in the Pittsburgh Area in July. FBI agents and local law enforcement arrested several people involved in human trafficking and child predators. The most notable of these arrests was a woman known as ‘The Monroeville Madam’, who is being identified as 45 year old Amy Schifano.
