Work will begin to rehabilitate two bridges that carries Route 198 over Rundeltown Creek in Summerhill Township, Crawford County. The existing bridges, which are located between Morris Road and South Inlet Road, will be replaced with precast reinforced box culverts. The work is expected to start July 8, 2019, weather permitting, and should be completed by August 30, 2019. The project will require a detour, which will be posted using Route 98, Route 6N and Route 18. The existing bridges were built in 1923 and 1934. Both are classified as poor condition. Approximately 1,200 vehicles a day use the bridges, on average. The contractor is Allison Park Contractors of Gibsonia, PA. The contract cost is $180,000, which is to be paid entirely with state funds. This project was made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan.

Nighttime rolling closures will be in place on Interstate 90 from the Ohio state line to mile marker 3.5 in Springfield Township, Erie County. The temporary closures for both the eastbound and the westbound lanes will be in place daily from 9 PM to 6 AM, starting Monday night, July 8, 2019, and ending Wednesday morning, July 10, 2019. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area during those times, as the work is likely to cause significant traffic delays. The restrictions are necessary for beams to be put into place for the new Huntley Road Bridge (Route 3012), which spans above Interstate 90. Huntley Road is closed at the bridge and a detour is posted using Route 20, Route 6N, and Underridge Road.

Work will begin to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Fredonia Road (Route 1001) over the Little Shenango River in Perry Township, Mercer County. The bridge is located between the intersection with Loper Road (Route 4021) and the intersection with Route 358 (Hadley Road). Work will include the replacement of the superstructure of the bridge, as well as new roadway approaches and updated guiderail. The current bridge was built in 1955 and is used by approximately 1,110 vehicles per day, on average. The work is expected to start July 8, 2019, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by October 25, 2019. A detour will be posted using Route 358 and Route 19. The contractor is Shingledecker’s Welding, Inc., of Franklin, PA. The contract cost is $645,000, which is to be paid entirely with state funds. This project was made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan.

A $2.7 million project that will give motorists a smoother ride on 10 miles of Route 173 and Route 845 in Mercer County is expected to begin next month. Resurfacing work will be done on the following portions of roadway:

  • Route 173 — from north of the intersection with Gilmore Road in Wolf Creek Township to north of the intersection with Route 965 in Worth Township; 4.81 miles.
  • Route 173 — from north of the intersection with Carlton Road (Route 1016) in New Lebanon Borough to north of the intersection with County Line Road (Route 1026) in French Creek Township; 4.76 miles.
  • Route 845 — from south of the intersection with Linden Street in Stoneboro to north of the intersection with District Road (Route 1008) in Stoneboro; .36 miles.

Work will include milling and overlay, as well as updated guiderail, drainage, and pavement markings. The contractor is Sharon Paving & Construction Inc., of Sharpsville, PA. The contract cost is $2,699,950, which is to paid entirely with state funds. The project is made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan. Work is expected to start July 8, 2019, weather permitting, and is scheduled for completion by October 11, 2019. No detour is anticipated with this project, though motorists may encounter traffic controlled by flaggers.

A project to repave Atlantic Avenue (Route 4004) in the City of Franklin, Venango County, will start next month. The project will include the full length of Atlantic Avenue from the eastern to the western intersections with Route 322. Work will include milling and overlay, as well as updated guiderail, drainage, and pavement markings. The contractor is Lindy Paving of New Galilee, PA. The contract cost is $924,325.31, which is to be paid entirely with state funds. The project is made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan. Work is expected to start July 8, 2019, weather permitting, and to be completed by September 27, 2019. No detour is anticipated with this project, though motorists may encounter traffic controlled by flaggers.
