Red Cross Seeks Volunteers to Install Smoke Alarms

The American Red Cross is seeking community volunteers to help with the installation of free smoke alarms in homes around the Meadville area during an event named Sound the Alarm from 9AM to 3PM on Saturday May 4th. Volunteers will receive training ahead of time and canvas neighborhoods offering fire prevention information and installing free smoke alarms where none exist. Pennsylvania Farm Bill Reviewed in State Senate

Governor Tom Wolf’s Pennsylvania Farm Bill is now up for consideration in the General Assembly. The Senate Agriculture Committee is reviewing Pennsylvania’s own farm bill which is designed to protect the commonwealth’s farmers and includes the easement of regulations and measures to increase the marketability of PA dairy products. It also includes money for things like nutrition programs and a $5 million emergency fund for agricultural disasters like an outbreak of Avian Flu.
