Bridge Closed After Being Damaged by Truck

A bridge crossing French Creek on Route 6/19 between Saegertown and Meadville is closed after sustaining damage in an accident. Three of the upper tresses on the bridges south side were damaged by a commercial truck with an upright boom arm as it traveled between Meadville and Saegertown. PennDOT has teams inspecting the damage and the bridge will remain closed until it’s cleared for safe travel.

 

SNAP Benefits for February Paid Today

Due to the partial government shutdown, nearly 2 million people in Pennsylvania who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, also known as food stamps, or SNAP for short; will be getting their February benefit payments today. PA’s Secretary of Human Services Teresa Miller wants to remind people the funds are supposed to last through the month of February. Temporary assistance for needy families and child care subsidies are also starting to feel the pinch of the federal shutdown and are working off excess funds from previous years.

PA is Second Largest Investor in STEM Education

Pennsylvania’s Department of Education is issuing $35,000 grants to more than 700 schools around the Commonwealth to help STEM and Computer science programs. These grants will total about $9 Million and is part of a $20 million investment that makes Pennsylvania the state with the second biggest investment in STEM programs.
