Insurance Marketplace Now Open

Open enrollment for insurance policies under the Affordable Care Act begins today. Jessica Altman is the Pennsylvania State Insurance commissioner and she urges people to register early and take their time shopping for insurance policies that best fit their needs. The rates for policies in 2019 are about 2% cheaper than last year and there is no longer an assessed penalty for people who do not buy an insurance policy. You can access the Pennsylvania health insurance marketplace online at Healthcare.gov.

LIHEAP Helps Families with Heating Costs

Today is also the first day that families in need can apply for home heating grants from the Low Income Heating Energy Assistance Program known as LIHEAP. Last year more than 340,000 Pennsylvania families were granted a total of $115 million to help pay for heating bills last winter. You can apply for a grant at your county health and human services office or online at compass.state.pa.us.
