Tri County Report For October 1st, 2018

A New Castle woman is wanted for sex related offenses, accused of having had sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy. According to the New Castle News, City Police said 28 year old Debra Kumrow gave birth and that paternity testing showed the 15-year-old was the baby’s father. Police said in the report that Kumrow had been temporarily living with the boy’s family on Halco Drive when the alleged encounters between them occurred between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2017. Kumrow faces a number of charges and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Police are still searching for a man they thought was holed up in a Beaver Falls home Sunday.  Brylee West is accused of shooting and critically injuring a woman and her two-year-old child last Monday in Steubenville, Ohio.  A SWAT team surrounded the home on the 500-block of 21st Street where West reportedly had stayed for about three days, with the residents claiming they didn’t know about the crimes.  Officials think the 18-year-old is no longer in Beaver County.

A New Castle woman has been charged with defrauding social security in Pittsburgh Federal Court. 36 year old Shawna Shelter is accused of received nearly 27 thousand dollars in Supplemental Security Income benefits to which she knew she was not entitled.. Shelter is also accused of making false statements to the Social Security Administration. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $750,000, or both

Pennsylvania is getting another REAL ID extension by the Department of Homeland Security.  The extension allows Pennsylvania residents to use their drivers’ licenses to access federal facilities and board aircraft.  The extension now runs until August 2019.

Police are identifying a man killed while walking at a Muddy Creek Township gas station last week.  William Kerr of Ontario, Canada was a truck driver who was walking in the lot of the station on New Castle Road when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 75-year-old man from Pittsburgh Tuesday.  The 64-year-old’s death is under investigation by state police.

State Police in Butler County report a one vehicle accident yesterday afternoon in Washington Township. According to police 18 year old Hailey Kellerman of Bentlyville was westbound on Fairview Road when she attempted ot avoid hitting a deer when she traveled off the roadway and struck an embankment. Kellerman was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin today in the trial of an accused New Kensington child pornographer.  Joshua Pottle is facing dozens of counts of child pornography possession after rejecting a plea deal last month.  Westmoreland County prosecutors say Pottle had collected ten-thousand items of child pornography when he was arrested in 2015.

A man is in custody connected to the shooting of a popular youth football coach in Shadyside.  Anthony Hines was arrested Sunday afternoon by U.S. Marshals and placed in Allegheny County Jail for the Friday shooting of the coach during practice at Mellon Park.  It’s reported the 33-year-old Hines was angry about a relative not getting playing time.  The coach was last listed in stable condition.

The State College Police Department is saying two sexual assaults taking place over the weekend in their community were committed by phony Uber drivers.  Cops reported yesterday that in both incidents, a man picked up victims and brought them to the Highlands section.  That’s where both were attacked, the latest happening yesterday on South Allen Street.  Police are asking anyone with related information to contact them, anonymously or otherwise.

A pilot will live to fly again after a plane crash in Somerset County.  Pennsylvania State Police say the plane crashed yesterday on the runway of the county airport in Friedens and landed upside down.  The pilot was able to crawl away with no injuries.  There’s no word yet on the cause of the crash.
