Daytime lane restrictions will be in place on a portion of Interstate 90 in Erie County as part of a project to construct a median cable barrier along the highway. The lane restrictions will be in place for both eastbound and westbound passing lanes from mile marker 30 to the New York state line. Motorists should expect to encounter lane restrictions weekdays from August 13, 2018, to October 13, 2018. Restrictions for the eastbound traffic may run 6 AM to 3 PM. Restrictions for westbound traffic may run 9 AM to 9 PM. All traffic restrictions will be lifted by 3 PM each Friday. The restrictions are necessary to erect median cable barrier along approximately 12.5 miles of I-90 in Harborcreek, Greenfield and North East townships, and North East Borough in Erie County.

The Wolf Administration announced the start of a multi-year construction project that will give motorists a smoother ride on Interstate 79 in Erie as part of its Road MaP program. The project will improve nearly 10 miles of Interstate 79 in Franklin, McKean, and Summit townships in Erie County. It will extend from mile marker 168.5, located about a mile south of Old State Road (Route 3014) to mile marker 178, located near Hershey Road (Route 4010). “We’re targeting investments to improve travel across the state, and this project reflects our ongoing commitment to tackle the backlog of needed work on our interstate system,” Governor Tom Wolf said. “This project will bring benefits for the motorists who travel in this region, as well as the businesses who rely on this highway.”
Announced in 2017, the Road Maintenance and Preservation program, or Road MaP, entails adding $500 million over 10 years to an already planned $500 million for interstate preservation and reconstruction, and another $600 million for rehabilitation and reconstruction needs identified through the department’s district and regional planning efforts. Also $1 billion will be invested in roadway maintenance. Work on Interstate 79 in this project will involve milling and resurfacing, along with concrete patching, and updated drainage, guiderails, signs and pavement markings. Construction is expected to begin on August 13, 2018 and is scheduled for completion by June 28, 2019.
