Two Airlifted to Hospital After Train Hits Truck

Two men were airlifted to UPMC Hamot in Erie after a collision with a freight train carrying a load of iron ore near Conneautville. At around noon yesterday Kevin Zebik was crossing the tracks on a private drive off of Canal Road in a red Chevrolet Silverado and was struck by a Canadian National Locomotive. Both Kevin and his Passenger Steven Cianca suffered moderate to severe injuries in the accident while no one aboard the train was hurt.

 

Witnesses Sought in Burglary Case

State Police are seeking witnesses to a July 10th burglary in the Warren County village of Columbus. One or more individual’s broke into the locked home of a 34 year old woman on South Street and damaged some property before leaving. Drownings Increase in PA Parks

Authorities say there have already been five accidental drownings in State Parks and forests around Pennsylvania so far this year; which is an amount equal to the entirety of last year. Four of those deaths have occured in areas marked with no swimming signs and the fifth was a man who fell from a boat while not wearing a life jacket. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources urges people to obey signs and follow safety rules.

 

Identities of Crash Victims Revealed

The identities of two people killed in an accident on Route 66 in Clarion County have been released to the public. Jared Felmlee of Seneca and Barbara Burkhardt of Shippenville were struck by a vehicle driven Tyler Schwabenbauer as he attempted to make a left turn at the intersection with Wisner Road. The fatal crash happened on Monday evening in Paint Township.

 

Meadville Man Avoids Injury in Crash but Not DUI Arrest

Zachary Waid of Meadville somehow avoided injury in a crash after his car went airborne on Monday night, but he was not able to avoid DUI charges. Waid admitted to drinking earlier in the day and falling asleep at the wheel when his SUV swerved off the road, ramped off of a hill, and collided with a van parked in the lot of Kuhn Tool and Die. Waid was arrested under suspicion of DUI after a field sobriety test.

 

Auditor General Gets Tough with Election Audit

Citing the recent Federal indictments against 12 Russian intelligence officials for conspiring to interfere with the 2016 elections; Pennsylvania’s Auditor General Eugene DePasquale is expanding the scope of his audit of voting security. A routine audit began last month. DePasquale says the state needs to develop its own plan to protect against outside interference.
