Suspicious Characters Canvass Homes in Crawford County

State Police from Meadville are investigating a string of break ins and attempted break ins in South Shenango Township on Monday. On the 25th of June two white males canvassed parts of Ralston and Adamsville Roads, breaking and attempting to break into multiple houses. One suspect was described as a tall clean shaven man; his partner served as a lookout and stayed inside a vehicle while communicating with his partner through a walkie-talkie. Protest Inside Governor’s Mansion Gets Response

Demonstrators in the reception room of the Governor’s Mansion called for a special session of the General Assembly to vote on a bill that would create an independent redistricting commission. On Monday the legislature took a summer recess with no plans to return until fall and demonstrators called on the Governor to bring them back to Harrisburg. Governor Wolf’s Spokesman JJ Wolf responded on his behalf by releasing a statement that he supports the idea of the commission and believes a session should be called. The governor has not called for a session.


One Injured in I-80 Crash

A woman was injured in a Clarion County car accident on Interstate 80 after falling asleep at the wheel. Sabrina Wieczorek nodded off while traveling west near mile marker 69 and hit the guardrail on the right side of the road. She woke up and over steered her car into a ditch that separates the eastern and western sides of the road, suffering minor injuries.


Bicycle Rodeo for Kids

Thursday June 28th in the Parking Lot of the Franklin Alliance Church it’s a bicycle rodeo for children ages 5 to 12. Activities include promoting bicycle safety, helmet inspections, and games; a bicycle raffle will be held, and there will be hot dogs, snacks, and other gifts for kids. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign a permission slip. Registration starts at 6pm with the rodeo starting at 6:30. The bicycle rodeo is sponsored by PennDOT, the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, The City of Franklin, Franklin Alliance Church, Cub Scout Pack 37, Rep. R. Lee James, A.B.A.T.E of Venango County, Franklin Kiwanis Club and the Venango County Sheriff’s Office.


Attempted Burglary Thwarted by Older Women

State Police say four men driving in an older model black sedan entered a Cambridge Springs home on Monday but were driven back out by it’s two occupants. When confronted by 72 year old Elnora and 50 year old Lorraine Lyons the men retreated back outside and headed east down Skeltontown Road without taking anything. An investigation is still ongoing.


ATV Theft in Seneca

On Tuesday in Seneca a homeowner noticed an ATV had been stolen from their property. The stolen vehicle is a 1986 Suzuki Quad Runner with a black body and blue frame. The four wheeler was was taken from a home on Tippery Road in Venango County. Call the State Police in Franklin at (814)676-6596 if you have information.


State News: East Pittsburgh Policeman Charged for Shooting

The East Pittsburgh police officer who shot and killed Antwon Rose Jr. has been arrested and charged with criminal homicide. Officer Michael Rossfeld shot Antwon three times as he fled from a traffic stop which caused his death. He was arrested yesterday morning by Allegheny County Police one week after the shooting.
