Ainsworth Pet Nutrition Sold for Nearly $2 Billion

On Wednesday April 4th the JM Smucker Company and Ainsworth Pet Nutrition in Meadville confirmed the sale of of the pet food producer for $1.7 Billion. Multiple sources including employees and management confirmed the sale yesterday after a company wide meeting was held to discuss the details. JM Smucker based in Orrville Ohio has primarily focused on baking and comfort food related branding with properties like Pillsbury, Smucker’s Jellies and Jif Peanut Butter. They’ve also acquired fifteen other brands including Kibbles and Bits, Meow Mix, 9 Lives, and Milk Bone in the past.

 

PA District Attorney Charged With Crims

Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Josh Shapiro has announced criminal charges against the District Attorney of Bedford County. It’s alleged that William Higgins used his position as DA to garner sexual favors from female drug dealers in exchange for protection from prosecution. Higgins has stepped down from his position amid the upcoming trial but has vehemently defended his innocence.

 

State Police Checkpoints Coming this April

The Corry State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints this weekend within their coverage area. 
The Clarion State Police will also be conducting their own checkpoints this month but were not specific as to when. Both agencies will be looking for impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

 

Plum Township Building Vandalized and Burgled

State Police in Franklin are investigating a burglary at the Plum Township Building on the weekend of March 23rd. 
At some point over that weekend someone entered multiple buildings on the premises, causing damage and stealing items. Anyone with information please call (814)676-6596.

 

Cosby Retrial Begins Monday

The jury has been selected, evidence reviewed, and attorneys on the defense and prosecution are ready to make their opening statements. 
The most high profile sexual assault case in Pennsylvania history goes into round 2 on Monday April the 9th. Bill Cosby faces three charges of aggravated indecent assault after allegedly drugging Andrea Constand and having sex with her.

 

Woman Injured in Single Car Crash

A 53 year old Kennerdell Woman was taken to Grove City Medical Center with unknown injuries after rolling her car in a Venango County Crash. 
Christina Beers was heading along Coal City Road in Rockland Township when she struck a  ditch and rolled her Hyundai Santa Fe at least 2 times.

 

State Police Investigate Death of Clarion Woman

The death of a 24 year old Clarion County woman whose body was found in her home on wednesday is being investigated by State Troopers. 
The woman’s identity is known but not yet being released. Troopers removed drug paraphernalia from her home in Toby Township but did not comment about whether it was connected to her death.

 

Governor Introduces New Bills Combating Workplace Harassment and Discrimination

Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Wolf is sponsoring new bills designed to address discrimination and in the workplace. 
Some major lwa changes in the proposed bill include adding sexual orientation to the list of things protected from discrimination and giving those accusing an employer of discrimination the right to a jury trial.
