Lawyer Calls for Release of Man Convicted of Homicide

Could a New York State man walk for a murder he was convicted of 20 years ago in Erie? Vance Haskell was convicted in 1998 of the shooting death of Darrell Cooley at a steakhouse in Erie but won an appeal in August of last year after proving a witness lied in their testimony. The 180 days for prosecutors to schedule a retrial ended yesterday and Haskell’s attorney is calling for his release.


One Arrested and Another Sought in Saegertown Burglary

State Police arrested Jesse Kinder of Meadville Monday morning after responding to a burglary call at the Bucket of Suds Car Wash in Saegertown. Kinder was allegedly found inside the office of the car wash trying to use a grinder to cut into a coin machine. Witnesses say an apparent second suspect fled the scene down Washington Street and Euclid Avenue as troopers arrived. Anyone with information please call (814)332-6911.


SCOTUS: PA Supreme Court’s Map Will Stay

The new redistricted voting map of Pennsylvania will come into effect by May just in time for the primary elections. Yesterday the United States Supreme Court issued a curt one line dismissal of a republican request for a stay on issuing the new districts. Mike Turzai, gubernatorial candidate and current Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives made a statement disagreeing with the decision but also accepting it and promising to move to other issues.
