A growing sinkhole that has developed in the Linden Street/SR 322 area of Meadville has caused the City of Meadville to announce a road closure and detour. The sinkhole developed on Wednesday, February 28 and was posing a threat to motorist safety.
Linden Street/SR 322 is closed in the eastbound direction between Park Avenue and South Main Street. Traffic heading toward SR 322 east to Cochranton has been detoured to South Main Street.
According to a news release from the City of Meadville, the source of the sinkhole is unknown at this time. Exploratory excavation will begin on Friday, March 2 to find the source of the sinkhole and repair plans will be re-evaluated at that time. Police will be periodically monitoring the situation to determine if further closure is warranted.
