The U.S. men’s hockey team is headed to the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament. Ryan Donato scored twice and Troy Terry dished out three assists as Team USA skated to a 5-1 win over Slovakia in a playoff qualifier. The Americans now move on to face the Czech Republic tonight, with faceoff set for 10:10 p.m. Eastern.
The “ShibSibs” are bringing home the bronze medal in ice dancing. American brother and sister Alex and Maia [[ MY-ah ]] Shibutani [[ shib-oo-TAH-nee ]] put on a stellar routine to a Coldplay medley to finish third in last night’s free dance. Americans Zachary Donohue and Madison Hubbell finished just off the podium in fourth.
American Brita Sigourney made the podium in the women’s freestyle skiing halfpipe final. She finished third to earn the bronze medal. Fellow American Annalisa Drew was right behind in fourth place, while Maddie Bowman finished 11th. Canada’s Cassie Sharpe won gold and Marie Martinod of France was second to earn the silver.
Four Americans are in the top-eight, including the top three positions, following qualifying in the men’s freeski halfpipe. Aaron Blunck posted the top score, with Alex Ferreira and Torin Yater-Wallace right behind in second and third, respectively. David Wise is eighth out of 27 skiers. The top-12 advanced to tomorrow night’s final.
Team USA is a distant sixth in the medal chase in PyeongChang. Americans have won 12 medals thus far, including five gold. Team USA led the 2014 Winter Olympics with 28 medals. Norway continues to lead this year with 29 medals. Germany is in second place with 23. Canada is alone in third with 19 total medals.
