Love is A Battlefield on Valentine’s day

Valentine’s Day was last week and while it brings out the best in most couples it brings out the worst in some others and police reported a couple brawls in our listening area. A man and woman in their fifties were both charged with simple assault at a Hampton Inn in Clarion County’s Monroe Township after leaving visible injuries on each other. In Venango County Michael Novogradac and Amanda Crowe were charged with harassment after an argument turned physical near Oil City.

 

Record High Temperatures Today

The high temperatures in Crawford County and the surrounding area are expected to break records today. The record high for February 20th was set at 63 degrees in 1994 and all forecasts predict a high between 68 and 73 degrees for today.

In the face of a lack of cooperation between the General Assembly and Governor the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has made due on its promise to redraw the state’s congressional voting districts itself. Locally the new map puts Crawford and Erie Counties both fully into the same district with Mercer and Lawrence Counties and about ⅔ of Butler. It puts the eastern third of Butler into a district with Clarion and Venango. House Speaker, Republican Mike Turzai, is ready to take the fight back to federal courts; claiming that the State Court has no right to redraw the maps.

 

Police: Felon Jailed for Threatening Ex Girlfriend and Mother

Andrew Hites of Rouseville is a man with a checkered past that includes felonies that prevent him from owning firearms. The 45 year old was arrested Friday night by State Police after sending threatening texts and a video of himself firing a gun inside his mother’s house to an ex girlfriend. Hites is lodged in Venango County Jail on $75,000 straight bail and charged for violating his status as a person not to use or possess a firearm.

 

Teamster Injured in I-80 Crash

A 73 year old truck driver was seriously injured when his tractor truck rolled onto its passenger side during an accident on Interstate 80 near the city of Clarion in Clarion County. Richard Baughman of Meyersdale Pennsylvania was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident happened and was taken to the Hospital by Clarion EMS.

 

Bloomsburg Professor Arrested for Child Pornography

A professor at Bloomsburg University was arrested after a routine audit of the school’s computers turned up child pornography. Professor Scott Lowe has been charged with four counts of sexual abuse of children and related crime. His arrest came on Thursday February 15th, less than 24 hours after University Police found the images on his computer as well as evidence that showed they had been recently accessed from his desktop computer.
