Man Arrested for 2017 Theft of $17,000

Barry Stover Junior was arrested by State Police earlier this month for his part in the theft of $17,000 from a car being held in a Venango County impound lot last year. It’s alleged that Stover drove another man to Venango Towing and Recovery where they climbed a fence and stole the money from a car inside the facility. The thief later gave the money to Stover. Stover is charged with receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit theft, and theft from a motor vehicle.


EDF Claims Gas Companies Lie About Methane Pollution

The Environmental Defense Fund reports that their studies are showing that natural gas and oil infrastructure is polluting as much as five times more than the industry is claiming. Andrew Williams of the EDF says that statewide mining is causing about as much pollution as 11 coal fired power plants. The Pennsylvania’s Environmental regulators are is finalizing new rules that would reduce methane pollution in new facilities but EDF says it would only reduce volume by about 3%.


MPD Arrests Two for Meth

A domestic abuse call turned into a meth lab bust for Police in the city of Meadville. MPD Officers responded to a call from the home of Lisa Strange and Charles Huston about a domestic assault when they found precursors to making methamphetamines. After getting Strange to an ER Police acquired a search warrant for their home and discovered the lab. Both are charged with multiple meth related crimes while Huston also faces assault charges.


THON Earns Over $10 Million for Cancer Patients Over the Weekend

Over the weekend Penn State Students raised more than $10 million for children with cancer by dancing. THON is a student run philanthropic organization that has raised more than $147 million since its creation and claims to be the largest student run philanthropy on the planet. Once a year the organization holds a two day dance marathon to raise funds to help children with cancer and their families.
