The U.S. men’s hockey team is playing its first game of the 2018 Winter Games this morning. Slovenia is the first opponent for Team USA, which is competing without NHL players for the first time since 1994. The U.S. finished fourth in Russia four years ago and is looking for its first gold medal since Lake Placid in 1980.

Team USA clashes with nemesis Canada late tonight in the women’s hockey tournament. Both teams are off to 2-and-0 starts in preliminary-round play. Canada is the four-time defending gold medalist. The Americans blew a late 2-0 lead against Canada in the gold medal game four years ago and lost 3-2 in overtime.

American Mikaela Shiffrin is hoping to finally get to ski at the 2018 Games tonight. She’s had two events postponed this week due to weather conditions, including the women’s slalom last night. Shiffrin won that event four years ago. She’ll compete in tonight’s rescheduled women’s giant slalom, which starts at 8 p.m. Eastern.
