Dangerous Weather Rolls in Weekend

The weather is the news again as multiple hazardous weather conditions simultaneously threaten our listening area. Conditions are right for a flood watch, yesterday’s rapid snow melt combined ice jams in bodies of water and rain could lead to flooding in low lying areas of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. There are already numerous reports of flooding from all over the region and the flood watch lasts until 1:00PM on Saturday. A winter storm warning is also in effect for Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. During the warning period ice, snow, and wind can damage infrastructure and make travel difficult and dangerous. Freezing rain will eventually give way to several inches of snowfall overnight creating a layer of ice covered in snow. Dozens of schools and businesses are already closing early to get ahead of dangerous road conditions and our own Operation Weather Alert is keeping track of them. In addition to snow and ice wind speeds could gust in excess of 30 miles per hour creating white out conditions and reducing visibility to mere feet.
The storm warning ends at 10AM on Saturday.
