Country music = tons of new faces

Country music has been crazy the last couple of weeks when it comes to the charts! For years it was always the same people in the top 10… Kenny, Blake, Luke, Carrie, Miranda …etc… now 12 of the top 20 songs are owned by “newbies”.

The 8 veterans to show up in the top 20 are mostly clumped up together ranging from # 8 – Kenny Chesney to #16 – Jason Aldean…with a few new ones tucked in between. Also, well know names showing up are Garth Brooks, Florida Georgia Line, Luke Bryan and Eric Church just to name a few.

Now, when it comes to lesser know names… I, myself, haven’t heard anything from most of them before their climb on the country chart… here are a few of the names showing up in the top 20 this week that are either first timers or have been around for about a year…

#1- Luke Combs, #4 – Kane Brown, #5 – Carly Pearce, #7 – LanCo, #18 – LoCash, #19 – Russell Dickerson, #20 Aaron Watson

Country music seems to slowly be getting the “traditional” sound back… and I mean, SLOWLY. There are a few bro-country and pop sounding country songs still hanging out that are new…but now as many as there was before. I have always said that back in the early 2000’s… country went through a phase of “not knowing where to go”… from the twangy & mostly traditional sound of the 90’s era and trying to mesh with what would become full blown pop country. Now, in 2017… country is going through another phase… trying to let go of the pop country sound and head back to almost traditional country sounds in their songs. At some point, it always seems that everything comes full circle… and I think that country music is slowly coming full circle. It may take a few years, but I think we will get there. It will be interesting to see what 2018 brings!

As always, thanks for listening and making Froggy 100.3 & 98.5 your #1 choices for country in all of Froggyland!
