Teen Killed in Mercer County

Marijuana paraphernalia leads investigators to think they may have been under the influence.

Liberty Township, Mercer County, PA –

A teenager was killed and two others severely injured in a Mercer County pickup truck crash Wednesday night. Darrian Snow of Grove City was declared dead at the scene after a 2004 Dodge Dakota rolled over on Amsterdam Road in Liberty Township and authorities suspect possible marijuana usage by all three occupants after finding paraphernalia. No one in the truck was wearing seatbelt when the driver lost control on a slight curve and hit a culvert and then a tree.

 

Strattanville Unloads Gun Ordinance

Strattanville Borough Council voted 5-2 to drop the ordinance

Strattanville, PA –

It is ixnay the illbay for Strattanville’s proposed firearm ordinance after the borough council voted 5-2 to dismiss further action on the proposal. The ordinance would have restricted the discharge of firearms within borough limits except for certain circumstances and pro gun advocacy groups were considering legal actions to stop it. Solicitor Ralph Montana drafted the proposal for the ordinance at the behest of Council President Susan Schmader who said she got the idea for the bill during memorial day when a neighbor began firing a high powered rifle during a picnic.

 

New Zebras Join the Erie Zoo

Zoe and Savannah are Erie’s newest animal residents

Two zebras, Savannah and Zoe, are the newest additions to the Erie Zoo after coming over from zoos in Minnesota and Illinois. They joined their fellow zebra named Zahara and Ethel the Donkey in an exhibit this week.

 

Man Sentenced for Child Sexual Assault

David Eccles claims drugs and alcohol prevent him from remembering

Meadville, PA –

He claims that a combination of alcohol and prescription medications made him forget it happened but he entered a plea of ‘no contest’ and was sentenced for six to fifteen years. David Eccles of Union City was sentenced in Crawford County for sexual assault and endangering the welfare of children for sexual involvement with his girlfriend’s daughter in Cussewago Township. The incidents took place from a period of time from June 13, 2015 until March 14, 2016. A no contest plea means that the defendant does not admit guilt but agrees with the prosecution that there is enough evidence to make a conviction.

 

Explosion Injures Three in Erie

A remodeling mishap burns two women and a man

Erie, PA –

A man and two women were injured in an explosion at a home in Erie. Apparently during a bathroom remodeling project a hammer somehow punctured a can of spray paint and it combined with a nearby candle to create a fireball. All three victims were taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment of burns.

 

New Flag for Oil City

Oil City revealed a new flag on Tuesday

Oil City, PA –

Oil City revealed a new flag on Tuesday during a public meeting held by the Oil City Main Street Program. The new flag keeps the navy and white color scheme but displays the city seal in the center, flanked by the date of town’s founding, 1871, and the words Renowned, Rugged, Refined beneath them.
