Venango County Election Board Okays ‘Crexit’ Vote

Rural farmers lead charge to secede from Cranberry Township

Franklin, PA –

It’s being called Crexit, but could it actually happen? Will part of Cranberry Township secede and become part of Rockland Township instead? The Venango County Election Board has just approved a measure that will add a stay or go referendum to the ballot in the November general election. Aaron Bolinger is one of the leaders of the movement to change township boundaries and like most of the others wanting the change he is a farmer in the southern part of Cranberry Township,

“Cranberry was trying to zone us like we are Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, or Baltimore. We all have 10-acre, 15-acre, 50-acre farms. We don’t want zoned commercial, industrial, even agricultural. If we want to do something on our properties, we want to be able to do it consistent with Article 1 of the Pennsylvania Constitution, which says we have the right to do on our properties what we want. We don’t want to have to involve zoning officials and township planners and planning committees and everyone else to do what we have done on our land for years.”

The Crexit vote will appear on ballots in certain parts of Cranberry and Rockland townships and needs to be passed in both areas. It will be voted on in the November 8th General Election.
