State Police in Lawrence County have arrested a convicted sex offender who is accused of having contact with an underage female. Police charged 26 year old Michael Mills of New Galilee with unlawful contact with a minor, sexual abuse, solicitation, corruption of a minor, and failure to provide accurate registration information. Mills was convicted of possession of child pornography and unlawful contact with a minor in 2013. In 2011, he was convicted of indecent assault. Mills is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on $100,000 bond.
Renovations at Lincoln High School are driving a 0.18-mill tax hike in the 2017-18 budget, scheduled for adoption during the school board meeting tonight. The Ellwood City Ledger reports The preliminary budget, adopted last month, included costs of replacing exterior wall along the third-floor walkway at Lincoln High School and renovations in the high school’s science wing. The owner of a property valued at $64,000, the median property value in Ellwood City, would see the school property tax bill go up about thirteen dollars a year. The last tax increase came in 2013.
A man is facing charges for allegedly killing a woman who went missing in Butler. Ishemer Ramsey was arrested yesterday and charged for shooting Melissa Barto, who disappeared last week. He allegedly told someone he shot Barto in the head in his car during an argument because he thought she was cheating on him. When police stopped Ramsey a short time later, they say his vehicle smelled like bleach, the passenger seat was missing and there was a pistol inside. Barto’s body has not been found.
One person is in the hospital following a tractor accident in Oakland Township. Police say the victim was riding the tractor on Chicora Road near O’Donnell’s Beer Distributor Friday when he collided with a car. He was airlifted from the scene but his condition has not been released.
State Police in Mercer County report A semi-truck tipped over early Saturday morning on Interstate 80, resulting in debris and fluids spreading all over the roadway. Police said the crash was on the west Interstate 80 ramp that connects to Interstate 376. No injuries were reported. The area reopened after crews cleared the semi and debris from the roadway.
Police in Mercer County have made an arrest in what they described as an investigation into human trafficking. 47-year-old Billy Jones of Sharon was arrested after a search of his home on Malleable Street on Friday.WFMJ-TV reports Jones was charged with strangulation, trafficking in individuals, and involuntary servitude. The victim is a 29 year old woman. The investigation is continuing.
Two people were taken to a Pittsburgh Hospital following a two vehichle accident on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township. According to police 28 year old Jamie Perciavelle of Aliquppia was southbound on 79 when he lost control of his car, crossed through the median and struck a guard rail. Percivalle’s car then traveled into the northbound lanes and was struck head on by a car operated by 28 year old Justin Seidling of Irwin. Both drivers were taken to UPMC Presbyterain Hospital for treatment of what police said were major injuries.
Two people are facing charges following a Harrisburg demonstration. About 50 people gathered at the state Capitol Saturday for an anti-Sharia demonstration. Around 40 counter-protesters also showed up to march. One juvenile was arrested for disorderly conduct and a man was taken into custody after striking a police horse. The gathering was part of anti-Sharia demonstrations all around the country.
The 18 Penn State students charged in the death of a New Jersey teen at a fraternity party are set for a preliminary hearing today. Nineteen-year-old Timothy Piazza died in February a couple of days after falling down stairs at a Beta Theta Pi pledge party. The defendants are charged with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, hazing, providing alcohol to minors and tampering with evidence. It took nearly 12 hours before anyone called to get help for Piazza.
