Tri County Report For May 30th, 2017

The Beaver County Coroner’s Office still has not yet identified the body of a woman pulled from the Aliquippa side of the Ohio River on Sunday near the Leetsdale boat launch.  Twenty-five-year-old Helene Brandy of Coraopolis has been missing since May 20th when she and her friend went over Dashields Dam in their kayak.  The body of the other woman was pulled out of the river shortly after the accident.  The coroner’s office was reportedly waiting on dental records to identify the body.

The Lawrence County Commissioners will be holding their weekly public meeting today
at The Lawrence County Airport Authority, located at  Frank Farone Drive, in Union Township at  Noon.  Throughout 2017, the Commissioners plan to conduct one public meeting every month at various locations throughout the County.

Fire officials in Mercer County continue to search for the casue of a house fire Sunday night in Jefferson Township. The blaze broke out around 10:30 at a home on Line Road. Multipule fire departments were called in to battle the blaze. No one was at home at the time of the fire and no injuries or damage estimate was reported.

Fire crews are investigating a blaze in Butler city.  The flames erupted in a South Street home early yesterday morning.  Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and several nearby residences were evacuated as a precaution.  No injuries were reported but at least three houses were damaged.  The occupants of the home where the fire started were recently arrested and police are trying to determine if a meth lab could have been involved.

A woman has been sentenced for a deadly one vehicle accident in Mercer County that claimed the life of a passenger in her SUV. WFMJ-TV reports  22 year old Fallon Dovidio Muncy, Pa., appeared in Mercer County Common Pleas Court earlier this month for sentencing on a earlier guilty plea to charges of homicide by vehicle, child endangering and DUI. State Police say Dovidio was driving an SUV that went off Butler Pike Road in Findley Township and rolled over in December 2015, killing 21 year old Nicholas Furman of Slippery Rock.  Dovidio was sentenced  two years in the State Intermediate Punishment  program, which is designed for individuals convicted of drug-related offenses.Dovidio was given credit for time served and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.

Two Philadelphia men are facing charges following an incident in Butler Township.  Police were called to the Sheetz on Center Avenue last week for a report of two people passed out in a truck.  Officers roused Gregory Brown and Eric Moutrie and found both were in possession of a large amount of cash and controlled substances.

Five people were arrested during a sobriety checkpoint in the City of Sharon over the weekend. According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers conducted the checkpoint on the State Route 62 Bypass from 10:30 Saturday night until 3 a.m. Sunday. In a press release, police stated  that out of the 113 vehicles checked, five drivers were arrested for driving under the influence. In addition, fourteen traffic citations were handed out and thirteen warnings were issued.

State Police in Mercer County say a Sandy Lake man is now charged in the assault of two children. 35 year old Chad Fry have been charged with aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors in connection with two children ages six and nine. The incidents were alleged to have taken place in March through the beginning of May at a Millcreek Township home. Fry was placed in the Mercer County prison on 75 thousand dollars bond.

A Harmony Township police officer is facing charges for allegedly driving under the influence on the North Shore.  Jason Vular was leaving Tequila Cowboy early Saturday morning when he drove into two parked cars.  Vular refused field sobriety tests, but told officers he had a few drinks.  He is being charged with DUI.
