Reno’s Rant: RIP To An Iconic Wrestling Career

So WrestleMania 33 has come and gone with a couple surprises, like the return of Matt and Jeff Hardy winning the RAW tag titles but mostly what everyone expected…Lesnar beat Goldberg, Cena wins again, Orton and Owens won their title matches.

There was one match however that seemed to be a little up in the air, the Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns. Say what you will about the match. Say what you will about Vince McMahon using Taker to put over his new face of the company. Say what you will about how the fans feel about Reigns being the new face of the company. It was still shocking and a bit sad to see the Undertaker, essentially hang it up after being defeated in the match. From his days as Mean Mark Callous in WCW to his debut as Kane, The Undertaker, Mark Calloway was an intimidating character to say the least. From The Undertaker to The Deadman, to the American Badass, he commanded respect in the ring and in the locker room.

For me as a young fan, The Undertaker, along with Bret “The Hitman” Hart, was the first heel that seemed cool to root for! I remember being so excited when Taker beat Hulk Hogan for the title at Survivor Series, only to have a special PPV 6 days later for Hogan to win the title back which P’ed me off. Whether face or heel, the Undertaker always had an aura about him that drew fans in and left them wanting more. Whether he was throwing Mick Foley off the Hell In A Cell or choke slamming him through the roof, whether he was walking the top rope or suicide diving over it, whether he was giving someone The Last Ride or the Tombstone Piledriver, we was larger than life….or death as the case may be. His unbeaten streak at Mania may never be matched. He is a 7 time heavyweight champion, 6 time tag champ, along with other titles and accolades but at the end of the day, The Undertaker was 100% bad ass!

Fans all over, including myself, wish The Undertaker all the best if this is indeed the last ride of his wrestling career!

Until next time,

Cheers,

Reno
